Answers Refused on Velma McColl and Oak Bay Marine
Cummins (Delta-South Richmond): Mr. Speaker, on October 28, 1997, I asked Question No. 33. There seems to be a reluctance to provide the answer to this question. I cannot understand it, other than to note that the question has to do with a special relationship between the Minister and the Oak Bay Marine Group and the actions of the Minister's west coast assistant, Velma McColl. I would like to know when I can expect that answer.
Adams (Parliamentary Secretary to Leader of the Government in the House of Commons): Mr. Speaker, I have looked into the whereabouts of the response to Question No. 33. I assure the member that it is not reluctance. The reply is being processed and I will present it in the House as soon as possible.
Cummins: Mr. Speaker, notwithstanding the unsatisfactory answer on the previous question, I asked Question No. 56 on December 2, 1997. It has to do again with the same two individuals. I must say that these questions are of some importance because they have to do with the Chinook salmon fishery of which 47 runs in British Columbia are at high risk. I would like to know when I can expect an answer to this question. On December 2 the question was asked. The 45 days is long gone.
Adams: Mr. Speaker, I do recognize the importance of these questions. I will also look into the whereabouts of the response to Question No. 56.
